Established in 2015, The Department of English at Rajagiri College of Management and Applied Sciences in Kakkanad, Kerala, is dedicated to providing a comprehensive education in English language, literature, communication, journalism and related fields. It aims to cultivate students’ linguistic proficiency, critical thinking skills, and cultural awareness.
Programmes offered by the Department of English include undergraduate programmes in BA English (Triple Main- English Literature, Communication and Journalism) and BA English Hons. The programmes cover a wide range of subjects such as literature from different periods and regions, language studies, literary theory, creative writing, communication skills, journalism, translation studies, writing for media and more.
The faculty members of the Department of English are scholars and experts in their respective fields, possessing advanced degrees and research experience. They play a crucial role in guiding students through their academic journey, providing mentorship, and fostering a conducive learning environment.
Under the mentorship of efficient HODs Ms. Amala Manavalan (2015-2-22) and Ms. Martina A A (2022-2023), the Department excelled not only in academics, but also on practical applications of English language skills. This included opportunities for internships, language immersion programs, literary events, and cultural exchanges, all of which contribute to a well-rounded education.
The Department, currently under the able leadership of HOD Ms. Kavitha Krishnadas, strives to equip students with strong communication skills, critical thinking abilities, and a deep appreciation for literature and language, preparing them for a diverse range of careers in fields such as education, media, publishing, and more.
SPERANZA
Every man in the world carries a spark within them by the various genres of literature they have confronted with. Speranza is the biennial international, inter-collegiate literary fest organized by the Department of English, Communication and Journalism that celebrates the English language, literature, and its cultural expressions. The fest includes competitions related to the nuances of language, literature, communication, poetry, drama, storytelling, language games, literary quizzes, and many more. Through interactive and creative activities, the fest aims to foster a deeper appreciation for the language, encourage literary exploration, and provide a platform for students and enthusiasts to showcase their language and literary talents.

English Association – Lingua Franca
The Department Association- Lingua Franca, celebrates the unique identity bringing together the dynamics of Literature, Communication and Journalism. It is a platform for the students and faculty members to come together to showcase their talents, express their passion towards curricular and co-curricular aspects. Every year the association day is celebrated bringing together the students and teachers alike ensuring in the contusive collaboration of energy, vigour and intellect. The students have also staged various evergreen Plays from English Literature including – King Lear, Lady of Shallot, Nagamandala and Riders to the Sea.
