The Department of English at Rajagiri College of Management and Applied Sciences was established in 2015 . The department offers an undergraduate program: BA English (Honours). Currently headed by Ms. Kavitha Krishnadas, the department provides a comprehensive curriculum that includes literature from different periods and regions, language studies, literary theory, creative writing, communication skills, journalism, translation studies and writing for media. The faculty consists of scholars with advanced degrees and research experience dedicated to developing students’ linguistic proficiency, critical thinking skills and cultural awareness.

 

Beyond classroom instruction, the department emphasizes practical learning through internships, language immersion programs, literary events and cultural exchanges. The notable highlights are Speranza, the biennial international, inter-collegiate literary fest and International Conference that celebrates the English language, literature and cultural expressions. The department’s holistic approach aims to equip students with strong communication and analytical skills, preparing them for diverse careers in education, media, publishing, corporate communication and other professional fields that value linguistic expertise and cultural literacy.

 

The department has also achieved remarkable academic excellence, with students dominating the Mahatma Gandhi University rankings in 2025—securing nine of the top nine positions. Beyond academics, the department fosters a vibrant community through Lingua Franca, the department association that celebrates the unique identity bringing together the dynamics of Literature, Communication and Journalism, where students have staged classic productions including King Lear, Lady of Shalott, Nagamandala, and Riders to the Sea.
