Cambridge English- Interchange 3

What Kind of Course Is It?

Interchange 3 is a general English communication course — not ESP (English for Specific Purposes) or exam preparation. Its primary goal is to develop confident, fluent communicators who can handle a wide range of everyday and semi-formal situations in English. It sits at the upper-intermediate level, where learners transition from “getting by” to genuinely expressing complex ideas, opinions, and attitudes.

Learning Objectives

By the end of Interchange 3, learners are expected to:

  • Speak fluently on abstract and complex topics (society, ethics, environment, technology)
  • Listen critically to extended speech and draw inferences
  • Read semi-authentic texts with good comprehension and analytical ability
  • Write structured paragraphs and short essays with clarity and cohesion
  • Use grammar accurately in both spoken and written contexts
  • Expand vocabulary in thematic and collocational clusters
  • Navigate intercultural communication with sensitivity and awareness

Who Is It Best For?

Interchange 3 works well for learners who:

  • Have already completed Levels 1 and 2 (or equivalent B1 courses)
  • Can hold basic conversations but want to express nuance and complexity
  • Are preparing for academic or professional environments
  • Are motivated by discussion, debate and self-expression — not just grammar drills

It is particularly effective in college and university settings where learners are intellectually mature but may still lack formal English communication skills.
